Minnesota law mandates a 10% reduction in car insurance premiums for persons 55 years and older who complete a defensive driving course like the AARP Driver Safety Program. Your initial class needs to be an eight-hour session. Then, every three years you will need to take the four-hour refresher class to maintain your 10% insurance reduction. Courses consist of an overview of safe driving; there are no written or driving tests required.
